  • Fridays and Saturdays are especially busy on the farm. Our average customer travels three hours to purchase their pet so we do our best to accommodate travelers.
  • We do not have appointments at the farm on Sundays in order to spend time with our family.
  • Please check out Upcoming Events to see if we will be near you! Whether you meet us at the farm or at one of our "Hedgehogs on the Road" events, we always spend time with our customers explaining proper hedgehog care, handling hedgehogs in ways that encourage bonding and answering questions.
  • It is our goal to get each and every customer off to the best start possible with their new pet.
 

What Happens During Your Appointment

 
  • The first thing we will do when you come is that we will give you an orientation to the nature of hedgehogs and how their uniqueness is important in the way you handle your new pet.
  • We do have a couch and a loveseat but be prepared to sit on the floor to handle the hedgehog babies. Baby hedgehogs are not afraid of falling and for the safety and comfort of both hedgehogs and humans we sit on the floor while playing with the babies.
  • When you reserve a specific hedgehog with a deposit you will have the opportunity to handle that baby and at least one other baby before making your final purchase decision.
  • When you do not have a deposit on a specific baby we cannot guarantee specific animal availability or have advance notice of exactly which babies will be available at the time of your purchase.
  • We will work with you and give you handling tips and instructions to help you feel confident and capable of handling your new pet.

Meet a hedgehog before you buy one

 
  • Choosing the right pet for you and your family is something we take very seriously.
  • We hope that you research hedgehogs as pets and understand their needs and what to expect from them before making your purchase.
  • It is hard to understand the prickliness of a hedgehog without actually holding one. Meeting a little critter in person before your purchase is definitely recommended if at all possible before actually making a purchase.
  • Hedgehogs are still considered exotic pets and are relatively hard to find. Local zoos, animal educators, nature museums or children's museums might be options to visit one locally if traveling to us is not an option.
 

Pre-Purchase visits at Millermeade Farms are welcome

 
  • We often have requests for people to come and "check-out" our animals before putting down a deposit or making a purchase.
  • Treating our customers the way we would want to be treated is very important to us and we want all of our customers to know we care about each new pet placement.
  • So, we welcome pre-purchase visits. In return, we ask that you respect our time, energy, and talents with your visit.
  • When you visit we will treat you just like a purchasing customer and do our best to answer all of your questions, allow you to handle our babies, and share our passion with you.
  • You must schedule a visit to our farm rather than simply showing up for a visit.
  • Most visits are scheduled the last appointment of our day. This allows us extra time to show you babies that might not be weaned and ready to go.
 

Scheduling a visit with a Purchasing Customer

 
  • The simplest way to come visit our hedgehogs is to schedule a visit while another customer is purchasing a hedgehog.
  • When checking on setting up a time for your visit, please let us know if you think you might want to purchase the same day (so we can make sure your potential pet is available).
  • You can check availability by looking at this link: Available Animals
  • Most likely your appointment will be the last appointment on a Saturday or sometime during the week when another customer is scheduled.
  • Please keep in mind you will have to be flexible with scheduling visits without a purchasing commitment than with a purchasing commitment.
  • Even if we do not have babies available for sale, there are times when we can still allow you to see what babies are like and you can purchase a future date.
  • We cannot guarantee availability of a hedgehog to take home the same day without a deposit on an animal. We do our best to keep our Available Animals page updated but we receive deposits on a daily basis so our availability is constantly changing.

Scheduling a Private Visit

 
  • Unfortunately, we have had visitors who took advantage of our time and resources with no real intentions of purchasing a pet from us.
  • Operating Millermeade Farms is our career and educating customers about hedgehogs is part of our profession.
  • In order to protect our family and our business we now require a $10 deposit to "visit" the farm that is to be paid in advance.
  • By handling a couple different hedgehogs you can make a more educated decision on the perfect pet for you.
  • Should you decide to purchase a pet from us, the $10 will be deducted from the price of your animal.
  • Should you decide that one of our pets is NOT right for you, you have simply invested $10 into your potential pet knowledge and hopefully had a great up-close and personal experience with some strange animals.
  • Again, we cannot guarantee availability of a hedgehog to take home the same day without a deposit on an animal. We do our best to keep our Available Animals page updated but we receive deposits on a daily basis so our availability is constantly changing.

Midwest Reptile Show

 
  • Some of our customers choose to meet us at a show as a matter of convenience.
  • We have attended the Midwest Reptile Show in Indianapolis, IN, since July 1998.
  • Our business has changed and evolved over the years but the show is still a popular venue for our customers. Please contact us or check our Upcoming Events link to be sure we will be at the show.
  • You can check out our Available Animals page to see a preview will be available for pre-purchase or at the show.
  • We do our best to give you the time and attention you deserve when you come to pick up your hedgehog. However, the very nature of the show does prevent us from giving you the same handling and buying experience you would receive at our farm.
  • For best hedgehog availability come at the beginning of the show.
  • Also, if you wish to purchase a cage package or specific accessories you will want to reserve those items as well. We have limited space available and it is not possible to take our full inventory line to the show.

Our Best Effort to Produce Quality Pets

 
  • We do everything possible to produce quality animals that are destined to become wonderful pets.
  • We use quality food, caging, and bedding as well as use our human resources to provide quality care.
  • Our diverse bloodlines come from across the country and we keep detailed records of our animals that can be traced back many generations.
  • We visually inspect every animal and we give you every opportunity to inspect your new pet as well.
 

Excellent Pet Potential

 
  • All of our hedgehog babies have excellent pet potential. However, babies in the Discount Plan may need additional time and attention and some are best suited for experienced hedgehog handlers.
  • When we meet our customers we spend time teaching handling tips and techniques so that babies will adjust to their new homes with as smooth of transition as possible.
  • The handling skills we teach will help a shy hedgehog become comfortable and an outgoing hedgehog continue to remain friendly after they go to a new home.
  • We offer post sales support by welcoming return visits for handling advice or nail trimming. I can also review video footage of you handling your hedgehog and give advice electronically if a return visit isn't possible.

Age When Ready For New Homes

 
  • Almost all of our babies are weaned from their mothers at five to seven weeks of age.
  • Most babies are ready to go to their new homes within a few days to a week from weaning date therefore our babies are almost always six to eight weeks old when they go to their new homes.
  • We determine babies are ready to go to their new homes when they reach six weeks old and meet our size and weight criteria
  • Like human babies, some hedgehog babies grow faster or slower than others. So, even when we give a target "ready to go" date we may advise waiting longer to take babies home.
  • We very seldom sell older animals as we like babies placed in their new homes as soon as they are weaned for the best bonding experience.

Online and Advance Picture Listing

 
Policies
  • Many hedgehog owners and potential owners enjoy looking at pictures of available babies.
  • We do our very best to take pictures that accurately represent our animals.
  • We offer the opportunity to purchase specific babies by listing babies online with pictures. We do our best to update pictures that are more than three weeks old.
  • You may notice color markings on the hedgehog in the online pictures. This is a way that we mark our babies so we can tell them apart since many babies look identical or very similar.
  • Our Premier Plan babies are given names and listed online. Names can be changed of course, but we name them because they are animals that are staying in our record keeping system.
  • Only limited numbers of Discount Plan babies are listed with actual pictures. Pictures require a considerable amount of time to post online. Discount Plan babies are less expensive in part because they do not have all the advantages of the Premier plan.

Availability

 
  • New hedgehog babies are born at Millermeade Farms every week and other babies are available for purchase every week.
  • We can almost always accommodate general baby requests with at least two weeks notice.
  • Specific color requests are much harder to guarantee availability as it is often a "surprise" what colors will be produced.
  • Our Premier Plan babies are the first available babies listed. These babies can be reserved or chosen up to several weeks before they are ready to go to their new homes.
  • Hedgehogs may be moved to the Discount Plan for a variety of reasons including but not limited to:
    • Minor physical imperfection
    • A hedgehog that is eight weeks of age and has not sold through our Premier Plan
    • A hedgehog that is a little more shy or nervous than we like to see in our Premier Plan.

Pre-Selection Visit

 
  • We have customers who wish to choose their babies at three to four weeks of age but take them home after weaning.
  • We will be happy to accommodate this request for our Premier Plan babies. See our How to Reserve a Hedgehog Article for more information.

Selection at Pick-Up Visit

 
  • Some of our customers prefer to handle several babies and to choose the baby that they like the best.
  • This type of customer is one that is not concerned about color as much as personality and how the hedgehog responds to being handled by an individual.
  • We will do our best to provide as many choices as possible for selection without an advance reservation.
  • Please keep in mind that we cannot guarantee availability without a deposit.
  • Our inventory changes quite frequently and we do our best to maintain our online listings but there are times when animals sell and it takes some time before we can change the listing.
  • By reserving a specific baby you are guaranteed that at least that particular baby will be available for you to purchase.

Advance Selection Notification

 
  • As described above, Premier Plan purchases will have a general idea of what babies will be available for selection based on the babies listed online.
  • We will not notify our Discount Plan customers what babies will be in their selection group because availability of babies in this group changes daily.

Reservation of a Specific Hedgehog

 
  • Specific hedgehogs are reserved through our Premier Plan.
  • Many of our customers have specific color requests and we are happy to honor these requests.
  • "Split-face", blaze mask, reverse pinto, black-eyed white, and white face standards are some popular colors that we often sell in advance through our Premium Plan.
  • General color preference refers to the fact that some people do not want a hedgehog with red eyes or they prefer the standard color.
  • A "chocolate chip" would be a color preference but a request for a non-albino would not be a specific request.
  • Albino babies are the main exception to the "specific color request" that can be purchased through our Discount plan.

Holding Reserved Babies Ready to Go to New Homes

 
  • We hold our babies for two weeks after the date of deposit or anticipated ready-to-go date" if deposit is made prior to weaning with no additional charge. The later of the two dates applies.
  • There are several reasons we believe it is important to get babies into new homes as soon as possible
    • Babies are cuter than adolescent hedgehogs.Smile It is often seen that people see younger babies and wish that they were taking home a younger, smaller pet.
    • The longer we hold a baby past the weaned and ready to go date the fewer options for substitutions are available.
    • We have limited space available and keeping babies into "adolescents" presents housing challenges for us.
    • The longer we hold babies the more cost we incur as a breeder. We do our best to keep our prices low and our price is set at the care and upkeep of a baby.
    • We try to be fair and consistent and have the same policy for everyone!
  • We are happy to care for a hedgehog longer than two weeks for $2.00 per day. The care and upkeep charge will be required to be paid in ADVANCE for hedgehogs not picked up within two weeks of the determined target pick-up date.
  • If after 2 weeks the hedgehog still has not been picked up, the hedgehog will be marked as available and the deposit will be retained.
  • If we contact the customer (whether via phone or email), they are expected to respond within 2 calendar days.
  • If the customer does not respond, it will be assumed that they are forfeiting their deposit and the hedgehog will be marked as available.
  • We understand that some of our customers are not able to rearrange their plans and need to pick up their baby on the target pick up date.
  • Please be advised that Millermeade Farms cannot be responsible for any negative impact from not following our advice.

Substitutions & Changes

 
  • Millermeade Farms promises to do our best to help you select the perfect pet for you and/or your family.
  • Reserving a hedgehog in advance ensures that you have at least one hedgehog to choose from that has the physical characteristics you have in mind for your new pet.
  • We understand that there are times when a hedgehog and potential owner may not be the best match.
  • When you reserve a specific baby online you may select from other babies of equal age and price if they are available.
  • Many times we keep siblings of babies listed online, as our own breeding stock and our customers are welcome to choose between siblings or other babies not already reserved.
  • We will have at least one "back-up" baby available in the Premier Plan at time of pick-up just in case the original match doesn't meet buyer expectations.
  • The babies in the Discount Plan are very limited in selection. We cannot guarantee availability of a discount "back-up" baby with the Discount Plan but we are likely to have a "back-up" baby in the Premier Plan.
  • Participants in the Discount Plan are welcome to "upgrade" to the Premier Plan depending on availability.

Color Requests

 
  • We personally enjoy having a variety of colors in our herd and it has been challenging and fun for us to produce various colors.
  • We do not however, enjoy trying to determine the true name of each color and trying to describe that color to others.
  • One important fact to remember when choosing a color is that babies may change their color as they mature. This is especially true with the snowflake pattern and white varieties.
  • Hedgehog Central at www.hedgehogcentral.com has an amazing color guide.
  • We are happy to accommodate broad requests such as standard or normal (shades of brown), something other than standard or something exclusive such as not albino.
  • We almost always have both standard and fancy babies available. We hope that you will anticipate the surprise of the exact availability when you come.
  • Customers who have a specific color request should look through our Placed in New Home page and give us an example or two of babies that look like the hedgehog you wish to purchase.
  • "Split-face", blaze mask, reverse pinto, black-eyed white, and white face standards are some popular colors that we often sell in advance through our Premium Plan.
  • We are happy to keep a waiting list for these animals with a $10.00 non-refundable deposit. If we cannot fill your request within six months we will refund your deposit.

Mixed Gender Sales

 
  • We discourage mixed genders to first time hedgehog owners.
  • We suggest first time owners requesting two animals to choose two females.
  • We do not sell Discount Plan babies in mixed genders.

Color Photo Pedigree

 
  • Our Premier Plan includes a color photo pedigree that will be emailed as a .pdf and is available upon request.
  • The pedigree is a written documentation of lineage for your hedgehog that we keep for every animal.
  • A pedigree of an animal in itself does not guarantee the quality of that particular animal, but quality breeders maintain accurate pedigrees for their breeding records.
  • Customers who wish to obtain pedigrees can request them at anytime.
  • Pedigrees are not automatically generated because they do take time to process and typically only customers who plan to breed make this request.
  • Saving us time allows us to meet other customers' needs in a timely manner.

Millermeade Farm Tracking

 
  • Hedgehogs we sell for breeding purposes are tracked within our breeding record keeping system.
  • This valuable asset allows us to notify individuals with breeding animals from our herd if a problem should develop in our breeding lines.
  • For instance, if a hedgehog dies of WHS we can notify identified offspring of the affected animal and notify owners of breeding stock from that line.
  • Tracking breeding stock is essential in all good breeding programs in order to breed the healthiest animals possible.

Breeding and Production Potential Recommendation

 
  • Millermeade Farms carefully selects our animal for our breeding program.
  • When we are aware that an animal is being selected as a breeder we will help our customer identify animals that are ideal for a breeding program.
  • Some of the things we look for when we choose our breeders we look for animals:
    • Which come from a mother who nurses her babies well without complications or baby growth delays
    • Which come from a large litter and from a male who has a good reproduction history
    • Which have nice confirmation and balanced body type

Introduction

 
  • Breeding and selling live animals is a little bit harder challenge because animals are so unpredictable!!
  • They grow at their own rate and sometimes things happen that are out of our control.
  • We do our best to predict when babies are ready to go to new homes but sometimes they are on their own schedule.
  • Also, the gender, color and personality of the litter are to some extent unpredictable.
  • Color can change and develop over time so what a baby looks like at three weeks might not be what it looks like at eight weeks or three months.
  • EVERY customer wants a friendly baby and we do our best to ensure that every baby is friendly.
  • When babies show a continued shy personality we will put them in our Discount Program as they will need extra attention.
  • Our Premium Plan customers will have ONE back-up selection in the event the hedgehog you choose is not what you expect.
  • The most common reason for the original "match" to not work out is that the hedgehog is quilling and more uncomfortable than usual.
  • Sometimes a week or two pick up date earlier or later makes a lot of difference in personality. Again, this is nearly impossible to predict.

How to Reserve a Hedgehog

 
  • Place a deposit online for a baby listed as "Available" using the link on the listing. Your appointment will need to be made within TWO weeks of the baby being ready. Keep in mind we will do our best to give an accurate "Ready-to-Go" date but the hedgehogs sometimes grow on their schedule. Be prepared for a possible week extension on the ready to go date.
  • Place a deposit and send a follow up email with:
    • Three dates of your earliest pick-up including weekend and weekdays. We are NOT open on Sundays. We will do our best to work with your schedule.
    • Your gender and color preference. The more flexible you are the more quickly you can be matched with a baby.
  • We are more than willing to allow customers to choose their hedgehog the day they come for the appointment. Please understand that this option is solely based on availability. Available babies are listed online and all babies weaned and ready to go are listed accordingly. We receive deposits daily and so even a hedgehog listed as "Available" may become unavailable as deposits are received. In order to be fair to all of our customers we only reserve hedgehogs with a deposit.
  • Some of our customers request to come and visit babies before they are weaned and then pick their chosen baby when it is fully weaned and ready to go. We are happy to accommodate this request.
  • Simply place a deposit using this link: Deposits Form. The Potential Pet Visits are typically scheduled for 1:30PM or our last appointment for the day. This allows us to see customers interact with their new pet and allows them extra time for the baby selection. Please read the Potential Pet Visit Agreement before making your deposit.

Advance Reservation

 
  • Millermeade Farms has new babies born almost every week and therefore we have babies who are approximately six to eight weeks old and weaned and ready to go to their new home each week.
  • Our busiest time of year is at Christmas and so we recommend at least one-month advance reservation to ensure best selection potential and guaranteed availability at Christmas time.
  • Customers who wish to purchase a hedgehog between January and November are encouraged to place a two-weeks advance deposit will guarantee availability.

Babies "On Hold" Pending Deposits

 
  • There are times when our customers express an interest in a particular hedgehog but are unable to make an immediate deposit.
  • We are happy to hold an animal without a deposit for 24 hours. These animals are moved to our On Hold section of our Available Animals page.
  • We cannot hold an animal for longer than 24 hours without a deposit. Our deposits are $10.00, which allows customers economically reserve an animal and allow two weeks to gather funds for the final payment.
  • This policy is in place because it allows us to be fair and consistent with all of our customers.
  • Please keep in mind our Available Animals pages are maintained manually and there is a possibility of error on our part and there is a possibility that multiple people put a deposit down on the same animal.

Introduction

 
  • Millermeade Farms has been selectively breeding hedgehogs since early 1997. We strive to produce the best quality hedgehogs that are possible
  • We do our best to accurately represent our animals. Each animal has been handled and observed for anything that might jeopardize its health in the future. We encourage all customers to carefully observe their pet before taking it home and express any and all concerns.
 

Premier Plan

 
  • Our Premier Plan is our most popular plan for purchasing pet hedgehogs due to the additional services and features this plan offers.
  • All hedgehogs that will be used for breeding stock should be purchased through this plan.
  • Millermeade Farms firmly believes that not every pet hedgehog is ideal or best suited for breeding stock quality. Our breeding stock is carefully chosen based on:
    • pedigree and background
    • health of parents
    • reproductive history of parents
    • growth history of animal
    • conformation of animal
    • personality and temperament
  • We want to ensure that any hedgehog sold for breeding stock is an animal that we would select for our own herd.

Discount Plan

 

Animals on the Discount Plan

Animals are placed on the discount plan for several reasons
  • The hedgehog is older (12 weeks or more) and needs to find a home as soon as possible.
  • We have a surplus of babies of a particular color. Albinos, for example, are harder to place in homes so we often discount them when we have several available.
  • The hedgehog has a physical blemish that doesn't affect their pet potential.
  • The hedgehog is slower growing and NOT recommended for breeding stock.
  • The hedgehog has a behavioral trait that may need extra time, attention or patience.

Advantages of the Discount Plan

  • The Discount Plans offers you a great DEAL!! If you want a DEAL this is the plan for you Smile
  • The Discount Plan is perfect for customers who are NOT concerned about color. (We do accept requests for NON-albino or red eyes).
  • This plan is ideal for those willing to work with a hedgehog that might need extra time, attention or patience.
  • Customers in this plan have a flexible with the time frame they are able to take a hedgehog home.
  • Ideal customers for this plan understand selection and availability is very LIMITED.

Disadvantages of the Discount Plan

  • This plan is NOT ideal for those who want the perks and benefits of the Premier plan. This plan is a deal because it does not offer the same perks as the plan with higher price.
  • We do NOT have a waiting list for discount plan babies or accept advance deposits for this plan.
  • We cannot predict when we will discount plan babies available.
  • We do NOT provide advance pictures of babies.
  • Babies listed as "shy" or have any type of noted behavior issue will require extra handling and patience and are typically best suited for experienced owners and NOT recommended for children.

Discount Plan Animals as Breeding Stock

  • Discount Plan animals are NOT recommended for breeding stock hedgehogs unless they qualify to be upgraded to the Premier Plan.
  • We are aware that it is possible to purchase a hedgehog under the Discount Plan with the intention of breeding or to purchase an animal at a cheaper price. However, the owner may not be using animals that meet our breeding stock standards or recommendations.
  • This may result in less than optimum quality offspring and thus reflect on the reputation of the breeder and hedgehog industry. We value our integrity and we believe it is one of the most important elements of a successful business.

Upgrading Discount Plan to Premier Plan

  • Some, but not all, animals on the Discount Plan can easily upgrade to the Premier Plan. For example, albino babies or babies with minor physical blemishes usually qualify for the Premier Plan. Hedgehogs that are slow growing or have had a prior illness to going to a new home do NOT qualify for the Premier Plan.
  • We are happy to take photos of Discount Plan babies for $10.00 photos session fee by using the "Other" tab on our Deposit Page. We do not text or email pictures other than by listing them on our Available Babies page. The animal will then be listed with a picture on the website instead of the stock photo used for Discount Plan babies. This is considered a service and will not be refunded should you decide not to purchase the animal.
  • We hope that all of our customers respect our animals and our policies as much as we respect and appreciate all of our customers.
  • We will be happy to discuss our breeding program with you at a later date should you want to explore the possibility of breeding your pet purchased through the Discount Plan.

Price

  • Both our Premier Plan and our Discount Plan babies are competitively priced with breeders of similar knowledge, experience, and quality. We encourage you to compare us to other breeders listed at www.hedgehogcentral.com or www.hedgehogworld.com.
  • One might be able to find cheaper babies elsewhere but we are confident that our prices are not only fair, but a great value when one considers the before and after sale support we give our customers.
  • We offer our unique care and handling seminar to all of our customers that is included in the price of our animals.

Cage Package Discount

  • All hedgehogs that are purchased under the Premier Plan are eligible for a Cage Package Discount of $10.00 when a cage package is purchased at the same time as a hedgehog.
  • Customers purchasing two hedgehogs must purchase two cage packages to receive two cage package discounts.
  • We work very hard to offer cage packages that are a great value when compared to purchasing items individually at a pet store. The $10.00 discount on your hedgehog is our way of saying "We appreciate your business".

$5.00 Cash Discount

  • Prices listed include a $5.00 cash discount. We cannot charge extra for using our credit card processing services but we do automatically include a cash discount in prices listed. Deposits are considered a cash payment and do not affect the cash discount.
  • We do not accept personal checks.

Costs to expect

  • Food. The minimum food that we suggest purchasing with your hedgehog is currently $12.00. This food should be enough to last two months if not longer. Refer to our Diet Recommendations guide for reasons why we feel keeping the hedgehog on the same diet for at least the first month is important. Should you decide not to purchase the food we will have you sign a waiver stating that you acknowledge and are accepting the risks associated with not following our suggestions.
  • Cages and/or supplies. We have worked very hard to have quality products available at affordable prices. These products are arranged in our Hedgehog Shopping Guide. Our package deals offer the best values but each item can be purchased individually.
  • Sales Tax for all retail sales within Ohio is 7% and is collected through our Williams County Vendors License.
  • Sales Tax for all retail sales in Indiana is 7% and is collected with our Indiana Vendor's License.

Terms of Payment

  • Your $10 deposit made on line is deducted from your final price.
  • We prefer cash payment but we can accept VISA/MC.
  • We are sorry, but we cannot accept personal checks.
  • We do not offer payment plans or full payment via paypal.
  • By reserving a specific baby you are guaranteed that that baby will be available for you to purchase.
  • We cannot guarantee that a particular baby will be available for purchase if you do not place a deposit on that baby.
  • When you reserve a specific baby online you may select from other babies of equal age and price if they are available.
  • Many times we keep siblings of babies listed online, as our own breeding stock and our customers are welcome to choose between siblings or other babies not already reserved.
  • We will have at least one "back-up" baby available in the Premier Plan at time of pick-up just in case the original match doesn't meet buyer expectations.
  • The Discount Plan babies are very limited in selection. We cannot guarantee availability of a discount "back-up" baby with the Discount Plan but we are likely to have a "back-up" baby in the Premier Plan.
  • Participants in the Discount Plan are welcome to "upgrade" to the Premier Plan depending on availability.

  • When our customers demonstrate a love for animals, a desire and willingness to learn, as well as a similar value system as ourselves we are more than willing to mentor new breeders.

Shipping

 
  • We do not offer shipping.
  • The only legal way to ship mammals is via airlines. Since we are a small business, we do not have the necessary staffing to provide this service.

  • Please keep in mind. We hold specific animals for delivery and/or pick-up for two weeks without additional charge.

Meeting Customers

 
  • Many of our customers live a considerable distance from our farm.
  • We are frequently asked to meet our customers "half way" or someplace other than our farm or scheduled event.
  • Unfortunately, this is a service we cannot provide.
  • In order to best meet the needs of our family, animals, and all of our customers our limited time and resources are needed at our farm and special events.
  • Another important reason we do not meet customers in parking lots or other random locations is that there is little opportunity for us to provide the care and handling information and demonstrations. We firmly believe proper care and handling skills are critical to getting new pet owners off to the best start possible with their new pet.

Health Guarantee for Congenital Defects

 
  • Our standard health guarantee is one year for anything congenital and for cancer for our Premier Plan pet babies.
  • We do our very best to produce healthy animals but occasionally an undetected birth defect may become life threatening.
  • Should a pet hedgehog die from a congenital defect prior to the one-year purchase date we will replace the hedgehog (excluding shipping) at zero cost to the original buyer.
  • A veterinary statement confirming cancer or congenital defects is required. All veterinary expenses are the responsibility of the hedgehog owner.

Deposit Agreement

 
  • The purpose of a deposit is to commit to purchasing an animal and is therefore non-refundable if the buyer fails to follow through on their commitment.
  • The deposit amount is $10.00 and is subtracted from the total price of the hedgehog. Payments can be made in person with cash, online via Paypal (credit card or Paypal account) or by mail with a money order. We do NOT accept checks for deposit payments.
  • A deposit is required to be put on a waiting list for a particular color or gender.
  • The deposit will hold an animal for pick up at Millermeade Farms or any other predetermined location.  The buyer is able to substitute their hedgehog at the scheduled visit with a hedgehog the same age or older if other hedgehogs are available.
  • Any hedgehog not picked up at the prearranged time without prior notification is considered unwanted and will be available for purchase by other customers.
  • Millermeade Farms will make every effort possible to ensure that the animal will be at the agreed upon location at the appropriate time and date.  
  • Disclaimer: if the animal is not ready to go to a new home at the prearranged time, Millermeade Farms will notify the buyer that the animal is unavailable and the buyer will have the opportunity to wait for that hedgehog or until the next animal is available or to have their money returned.
  • If the buyer is unable to pick up the animal, the buyer must give 48 hours notice to Millermeade Farms at 419-485-3690 or 419-485-3734.  Only then can the deposit be used to reserve another animal for a later pick-up date. The buyer will have six months to apply their deposit to another animal.
  • If the buyer cancels the pick up date a second time, the buyer loses privileges to reserve animals.
  • Please feel free to review or compare our deposit policies to other hedgehog breeder's policies. A good way to do this is to simply do an Internet search for "hedgehog deposit policy".

Deposit Refund

 
  • The purpose of a deposit is to commit to purchasing an animal and is therefore non-refundable if the buyer fails to follow through on their commitment.
  • Please be certain that you are willing and able to follow through with your commitment to your purchase before placing a deposit.
  • We understand that there are times when unexpected events prevent the purchase of an animal at the intended time. For this reason our deposit is $10.00 instead of $50.00, 50% or 100% of the cost of the animal.
  • We do not offer refunds not only to be fair and consistent with all of our customers but also to be fair to us because we have made your hedgehog unavailable to other customers upon your deposit and have potentially lost another sale.

Right to Refuse Sale

  • Millermeade Farms reserve the right to decline or terminate the sale of an animal at any time or any reason.
  • We will terminate a sale if we believe a hedgehog will not have adequate food, care, or housing.
  • We reserve the right to decline sales to customers who have higher expectations of products or services than we feel we can provide. We will always do our best but we would rather not make a sale than risk failing to meet customers' needs or desires.
